Glossary

Telemedicine (Telemedizin) means medical consultations at a distance, for example by video; Switzerland has no specific federal act on it, so the general rules apply.

Telemedicine (Telemedizin) means medical consultations at a distance, for example by video, in which physician and patient are not in the same place. It describes how a consultation takes place, not a legal category of its own: Switzerland has no specific federal telemedicine act, and remote consultations are governed by the general rules.

The general rules

The rules below come from two federal acts, the Medical Professions Act (MedBG) and the Therapeutic Products Act (HMG):

  • Physicians who practise under their own professional responsibility need a licence from the canton in whose territory they practise (Art. 34 MedBG). The requirements are explained under licence to practise (Berufsausübungsbewilligung).
  • Physicians must exercise their profession carefully and conscientiously (Art. 40 let. a MedBG).
  • Medicines may only be prescribed if the patient's state of health is known (Art. 26 para. 2 HMG).

In our practice

In our practice, consultations take place by video with our physician Oxana Smagulova. The practice works fully online, without a waiting room, and you see the same physician at every appointment. Consultations are held in German, English or Russian, and French-speaking patients have their appointments in English; the information call can also take place in Italian. Whether treatment is an option is decided individually by the physician during the consultation. Our consultation fees are listed under our prices.

General information, not legal advice. It does not replace a medical consultation.
