Cantons · GR
Graubünden is the only canton with three official languages: German, Romansh and Italian are of equal standing (KV GR Art. 3). On 31 December 2025 its permanent resident population was 207'400 (BFS). Chur, the capital, is also the largest municipality with 39'753 residents, followed by Davos (10'738) and Landquart (9'281).
In Graubünden, as everywhere in Switzerland, medical cannabis has been governed since 1 August 2022 by the same federal rules: a physician may prescribe it where medically indicated, without an exceptional authorisation from the BAG (Art. 8 BetmG). The canton enforces these rules, and supervision of medicines and narcotics sits in the cantonal health office, the Gesundheitsamt.
Supervision of medicines and narcotics
The cantonal pharmacist is part of the Gesundheitsamt Graubünden (area Aufsicht und Bewilligungen) within the Departement für Justiz, Sicherheit und Gesundheit (DJSG). The office's page provides pharmacies and practices with leaflets, position papers and reporting forms, in German, Romansh and Italian.
Good to know
- Municipalities determine their own official languages (KV GR Art. 3). In Romansh the canton is called chantun Grischun.
- Among the cantonal pharmacist's documents are a leaflet on handling narcotics (2017) and a delivery note for the disposal of narcotics that are no longer needed.
- The Regionale Fachstelle at the Kantonale Heilmittelkontrolle Zürich also inspects some dispensing points in Graubünden.

- You choose the pharmacy freely, in your canton or anywhere else in Switzerland (Art. 26 HMG).
